ELBA TWP. — Love INC invites you to join them Saturday evening (Feb. 10) when they host their third annual Adult Prom with a Purpose, an opportunity for people to dress up for a good cause. From 5 p.m. to midnight at the Lapeer Country Club in Elba Township, attendees can relive the glitz and glamour of prom with the added benefit of supporting a worthwhile community organization.

Scheduled during the Hollywood award season, proceeds from the event will raise money for Love INC. Theme of this year’s Adult Prom with a Purpose is fittingly “The GenerOscars.”

Featuring dinner, desserts and a full open bar to go along with raffles, a silent auction, a live DJ and dancing, as well as the prom-appropriate crowning of a King and Queen, this year’s GenerOscars aims to allow people an opportunity to enjoy a red-carpeted night out while raising money for Lapeer area’s Love INC. While the proceeds have always gone to a worthy cause, according to prom committee member Kara Lambourn, the idea behind the event itself was simple. “People like getting dressed up and having a fun night out,” she said. “We didn’t expect it to take off.”

And take off it did. The first year, with the theme of Valentine’s Day, raised $4,500, and last year that amount jumped to $8,000, with the theme of an “Enchanted Evening.” Last year’s event was also sold out.

“Maybe this year we’ll do better,” said Lambourn. “It’s much better than a high school prom.” To go along with this year’s theme of Oscar season, Lambourn said they plan to hand out Oscar replicas to guests throughout the evening.

Love INC, or “Love in the Name of Christ,” is a Michigan-based nationwide organization. The Lapeer group is one of 137 chapters across the country and serves as a clearinghouse for 27 area churches, providing a wide range of services ranging from counseling to emergency needs and shelter.

Tickets for Adult Prom with a Purpose are $75 per person. Those who attend must be at least 21 years old. Tickets are available at Village Printing on 349 McCormick Dr. and Beautiful U Salon and Spa on 232 W. Nepessing St. For questions or to sponsor the event, contact Gabrielle Taube at 810-545-8362 or gabtaube@gmail.com.
