First-ever Emergency Services Gala on Feb. 17

ELBA TWP. — The first ever Lapeer County Emergency Services Gala, aiming to honor Lapeer’s emergency personnel for their selfless service, is set for Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Lapeer Country Club. The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., will include fun, food and festivities in veneration of the men and women who risk their lives to keep us safe.

The Emergency Services Gala was designed and developed by Betsy Felton, the director of emergency services, women’s services, and ortho at McLaren Lapeer Region, and Mary Piorunek, the director of Lapeer County Emergency Management, as a sincere ‘thank-you’ to all of the first responders in Lapeer.

This special evening, which is set to become an annual event, is a chance to express gratitude as a community for the hard work and dedication of emergency services personnel in Lapeer. Emergency services consist of police, firefighters, EMS and 9-1-1 responders, as well as the emergency and trauma staff at McLaren Lapeer Region.

“These men and women risk their lives on a daily basis in order to help our community,” said Felton. “Some of these people are volunteers and don’t even get paid for all of their hard work, and simply do it out of the kindness of their heart. This is our way of saying how much we appreciate them and the help they provide to Lapeer.”

“This gala has been a long time coming, and we’re always looking for ways to thank our emergency services providers, because they lay their lives on the line and save lives every day,” said Piorunek.

The event, which will be free for all emergency services personnel, will include a plated dinner, open bar, dancing and door prizes. Sponsors for the Emergency Services Gala include Kamax, McLaren Lapeer Region, View Newspaper Group, Milnes Ford, Enbridge, Black Tie Productions, Lapeer Country Club, Jarvis Property Restoration, Motorola Solutions, Lakestone Bank & Trust, Ray C’s, Montgomery & Sons Inc. and Home Depot. A total of 200 tickets will be provided, and a limited number of seats may still be available for emergency services personnel.

For information about the event, including how to make monetary or door prize donations, or to inquire about available tickets, contact Piorunek at 810-667-0242 or mpiorunek@lapeercounty.org, or Felton at 810-667-5954.
