Lightning Basketball to hold ‘Shoot for a Cure’ on Friday at Lapeer High School

LAPEER — This year’s Pink Out 2018 will be held Friday, Feb. 9 in the gymnasium at Lapeer High School when the varsity boys and girls Lapeer Lightning teams, as well as the girls JV team, take on the Davison Cardinals. Proceeds from Shoot for a Cure will raise money for the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Lapeer Region, 1295 Barry Drive.

The JV girls start the night at 4 p.m., the girls Varsity tips off at 5:30 p.m., with the Boys Varsity finishing at 7 p.m.

The Shoot for a Cure event will include a 50/50 raffle and bake.

FLC to offer volunteer tutor training on Friday

LAPEER — The Family Literacy Center (FLC)’s next training session is Friday, Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the FLC office on 311 Higgins St. in Lapeer. Lunch will be provided.

Last year, more than 200 students went through FLC programs and over 40 students received GEDs. More information about volunteering to be a tutor or information about FLC programs is available by calling 810-664-2737, visiting the FLC at 311 Higgins St. in Lapeer or via the FLC website at www.readlapeer.org.

The Whatabouts to perform music of 60’s girl groups

LAPEER — The Whatabouts, with their band, the Whoevers, bring the music of the 60’s girl’s groups to life at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the PIX Theatre. Songs like the Chiffons “One Fine Day” and Mary Wells “My Guy” are sure to bring back memories and have you singing along.

Tickets in advance are $16 for adults and $14 for seniors, students and veterans. Ticket price goes up at the door to $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors, and veterans. To purchase tickets in advance, visit the PIX Box Office located inside Gallery 194, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased over the phone at 810-664-4824 or online at www.centerfortheartslapeer.org.

Free Family Fun Series performance at PIX Theatre

LAPEER — Part of the Family Fun Series, area residents are invited to visit the PIX Theatre for an afternoon of musical fun on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. as award-winning artist and performer Kevin Kammaraad takes to the PIX stage along with a few surprise friends in The Spinach Dip Pancake Show.

There is no charge to the Family Fun Series show.

It is recommended to call or stop by to reserve your tickets in advance. Seating is limited. To reserve tickets, visit the PIX Box Office located inside Gallery 194, Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
