Euchre tourney to support the arts

LAPEER — The Fourth Annual Euchre Tournament to benefit the Center for the Arts of Greater Lapeer will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer. Registration will be from 6-6:45 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person. Ten games of eight hands will be played. Adult beverages will be available, along with snacks and raffles.

Bottle, can collective drive to raise money for Project Graduation

LAPEER — Area residents are invited to bring their returnable bottles and cans to a collection drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Lapeer Center for Innovation (formerly Lapeer West High School) on Millville Road in Lapeer. Proceeds will go toward Projection Graduation, an organized safe party for Lapeer High School seniors.

If you can’t make Saturday’s collection drive, call Wendy at 810-358-5895 or Missy at 810-656-3691 and they will make arrangements to pick up the returnables.

Speaker to address origin of conservation districts in Michigan

LAPEER — The Lapeer Conservation District invites the public to attend a presentation titled “How soil conservation began and why it is still relevant today’ by Steve Law, a consultant with the Michigan Associations of Conservation Districts.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22 in the upstairs courtroom of the historic county courthouse in downtown Lapeer. Admission is free.

Weather buffs invited to Skywarn Class at PIX Theatre on April 5

LAPEER — Area residents interested in the weather are invited to take the 2018 Skywarn Class to be held from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at the PIX Theatre in downtown Lapeer. Those who attend the free class will learn how to accurately observe such weather phenomena’s as tornadoes, hail, wind and various cloud features.

The class will be instructed by personnel from the National Weather Service’s White Lake office in Oakland County. The presentation is hosted by the Lapeer County Office of Emergency Management, the Lapeer County Amateur Radio Association and the Lapeer County CERT Team.
